To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour
– William Blake, Auguries of Innocence
Appreciation is something which is often missed. We do not realise what we have until it is either gone or destroyed, so they say. Life, partners, loved ones, pets. Tears flow when something ends but tears hardly ever flow in appreciation of something which is there. It is quite often the little things we overlook which are essentially making up the bigger things in life. Things we often take for granted or expect to happen on a day to day basis are the things which we would miss if they were not there so suddenly.
Each hour, each minute, each day should be filled with something. One moment could change so much and have lasting consequences, both good and bad. One decision can make you feel different, act different or appear different. Mistakes are made so that we may learn. Challenge should be sought so that we may grow. Do not live with regret, only with vigour. Someone who never challenges or aims high never falls. It is in falling which we learn to pick ourselves up again and to continue for it is falling which is the measure of a good person in how they carry on.
Turn those bad events into good. Use them to push you rather than allow them to hinder your progression. Once we begin to appreciate everything in life we feel happier in knowing it will not last forever.
